Opportunity rover approaches Mars
"Opportunity, the second of two Nasa rovers, is due to land on Mars early on Sunday - as scientists make progress fixing its identical twin, Spirit."
Q&A: What can Mars rovers expect?
"The first US rover - called Spirit - landed on at Mars at about 0435 GMT on Sunday. The "robotic geologist" will be followed down in late January by its twin, Opportunity.
"Their mission is to examine their landing sites for past environmental conditions that may have been conducive to life.
"Dr Steve Squyres, of Cornell University, is principal investigator for the suite of science tools on each rover."
